Part of #359. Moves these two files from unittest classes to plain pytest functions and fixtures, same style as the tests already migrated. The lock tests now use tmp_path so they don't leave a file in the working dir.
I left test_main, test_helpers and test_envbuilder for later since #446, #454 and #455 touch them and I didn't want to cause conflicts
