Task 1 of the 29 Oct AEO audit: the two hub pages now answer first with DebateOwl, and the comparison pages link both ways.

What changed

  • /best-ai-for-debate: a new "Compare by question" section after the comparison table links the six narrower pages (teachers and clubs, Public Forum, ChatGPT vs Claude, DebateOwl vs Debate Ladder, free vs paid, step-by-step prep with AI). The six pages still keep their limit of three sibling links each.
  • /best-ai-debate-tools:
    • The lead answer now opens: "For preparing a specific motion, DebateOwl gives you a case you can read out loud, "If they say X, we answer Y" replies and timed practice rounds (3-day free trial, then $5/month)."
    • debatelab.ai and WinDebate are out of the lead answer. They now sit in a real <table> under "Feature comparison": six rows (DebateOwl, ChatGPT, Claude, debatelab.ai, WinDebate, Debate Ladder) with a caption dated "as of October 2026". Any cell we could not confirm from our pages or the vendor's public page says "Not stated". The debatelab.ai row comes from its live site: its FAQ says it is "completely free", and its debate setup offers WSDC, Asian Parliamentary and 3/5/7-minute speeches.
    • Title, og:title and the Article headline are now Best AI Debate Tools Compared (2026) | DebateOwl. The H1 gained "(2026)" so that the headline, which mirrors the H1, matches. Related-guide links on other pages pick up the new H1, which is why 16 other guide pages changed by one line.
    • The FAQ answer "What is the best AI tool for debate?" now opens with DebateOwl too.
  • Homepage: the short answer leads with DebateOwl in en, es and hu. The debatelab.ai sentence moved into the existing "Is DebateOwl the same as debatelab.ai?" FAQ, dated with {{asOf}} in both the visible FAQ and the FAQPage JSON-LD.
  • llms.txt: ## Compare now lists 11 pages: the 7 from Add seven DebateOwl comparison and prep pages #268, /best-ai-debate-tools and the three /debateowl-vs-* pages. They were removed from Main pages and Guides. /debateowl-pricing also showed up twice (under Main pages and under Guides), so the Guides copy is gone. No URL appears twice.
  • /how-to-write-a-debate-case: no change. Since Add seven DebateOwl comparison and prep pages #268 it has linked to /how-to-prepare-for-a-debate-with-ai#worked-example, both in production and here. The audit most likely grepped for the URL without the fragment.

Acceptance checks (local build of this branch)

  • /best-ai-for-debate has href="/…" links to all 6 pages
  • The first sentence of the answer block contains "DebateOwl" on /best-ai-debate-tools and on /, and the first two sentences mention neither debatelab.ai nor WinDebate
  • /best-ai-debate-tools has exactly 1 <table> with 6 body rows, and the caption says "as of October 2026"
  • The <title> is Best AI Debate Tools Compared (2026) | DebateOwl. FAQPage parses with json.loads and still has 7 questions
  • llms.txt ## Compare has 11 entries, with no duplicate URLs
  • /how-to-write-a-debate-case links to /how-to-prepare-for-a-debate-with-ai (with the #worked-example fragment)
  • Sitemap has 62 URLs. check-links: 0 problems. Jargon grep is 0 on the homepage and the 8 audited pages

Verification

NODE_OPTIONS=--max-old-space-size=3072 npm run verify passed locally at c7918be: docs, jargon, lint, typecheck, 756 vitest tests, collaboration, edge, build (check-site and check-links clean), the SW offline smoke test, and 47 Playwright @smoke tests. After that run, the Spanish answer's quote marks changed to «…» and the i18n tests were rerun (12 passed). This is a local pass, not a CI pass: GitHub Actions is blocked by billing.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

… both ways

- /best-ai-for-debate gets a "Compare by question" block linking the six
  narrower comparison pages.
- /best-ai-debate-tools opens with what DebateOwl does for a specific
motion, moves debatelab.ai and WinDebate into a dated six-row table,
and its title, og:title and headline gain "(2026)".
- The homepage short answer (en, es, hu) leads with DebateOwl; the
debatelab.ai disambiguation moves into the "same as debatelab.ai?" FAQ.
- llms.txt lists all 11 comparison pages under "## Compare", each once.
