Summary

  • instrument non-streaming and streaming AI requests with safe request outcome metadata
  • report unexpected AI and route failures to Sentry without user content
  • track tool opens, successful exports, and sparring completion milestones
  • add focused observability, privacy, route, export, AI, and store coverage

Privacy

  • no motions, cases, chat messages, source titles, email addresses, or other user content enter event properties
  • PostHog autocapture, pageview capture, session recording, and persistent storage remain disabled
  • Sentry default PII collection remains disabled
  • Vercel observability credentials are not included in this PR and remain unset

Verification

  • npm run verify
  • 924 tests passed
  • selected-scope coverage: 90.48% statements, 82.96% branches, 91.44% functions, 94.02% lines
  • production build loaded with Sentry/PostHog vars absent and made no requests to either service
  • independent pre-PR review completed; two findings were fixed and the re-review found no remaining actionable issue

Follow-up outside this PR

  • add the Sentry DSN and PostHog project key to Vercel after secure credential intake
  • redeploy only after explicit authorization
  • update all three privacy-policy locales after copy sign-off

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added analytics for tool openings, AI requests, content exports, and sparring milestones.
    • Added error monitoring for route and AI request failures.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved handling of timeouts, cancellations, authentication failures, and unexpected AI errors.
    • Prevented analytics or monitoring issues from interrupting normal app behavior.
  • Privacy
    • Excluded sensitive content from telemetry and used privacy-safe error details.
  • Tests
    • Added comprehensive coverage for analytics, exports, observability, routing, AI requests, and sparring sessions.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The PR adds guarded observability, product analytics, classified AI request telemetry, route error reporting, export events, and sparring lifecycle events. It also moves AI response validation into shared request transformations and adds coverage for these behaviors.

Changes

Application telemetry

Layer / File(s) Summary
Observability guards and AI telemetry contracts
src/lib/observability.ts, src/lib/ai/client.ts, src/test/observability.test.ts
Telemetry requires configured PostHog or Sentry settings. Capture failures no longer interrupt product behavior. AI errors receive stable classifications and sanitized metadata.
Shared AI request telemetry and transformations
src/lib/ai/client.ts, src/lib/ai/error-display.ts, src/test/ai/client-analytics.test.ts
AI requests report started, succeeded, and failed events. Feature methods validate responses through shared transformations. Unmapped provider errors no longer capture exceptions in the display layer.
Streaming request telemetry
src/lib/ai/streaming.ts, src/test/ai/streaming.test.ts
Streaming requests report outcomes and distinguish caller aborts, timeouts, authentication failures, and provider errors. Tests verify sanitized telemetry.
Tool route analytics and route error capture
src/App.tsx, src/test/app-route-analytics-error-boundary.test.tsx
Recognized tool routes emit tool_opened. Route rendering failures capture fixed boundary context. RouteErrorBoundary is exported.
Content export events
src/lib/export-utils.ts, src/lib/pdf-export-utils.ts, src/test/export-telemetry.test.ts
Successful DOCX, PDF, and Google Docs exports emit content_exported with enum-based format and tool properties.
Sparring lifecycle events
src/lib/stores/sparring-store.ts, src/test/stores/sparring-store.test.ts
Completed rounds emit sparring_round_completed. Judged sessions emit sparring_session_judged. Duplicate completions do not emit duplicate events.
Admin tool analytics
src/pages/AdminPage.tsx, src/test/pages/AdminPage.test.tsx
Confirmed administrative access emits tool_opened with the admin tool identifier. Unauthorized access emits no event.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4f7d3

The change adds privacy-safe analytics and error tracking, but route-level tool-open events may still be recorded for rejected or redirected routes because tracking is outside the authentication boundary. The PR is otherwise mergeable with explicit owner awareness or follow-up on that bounded privacy concern.

Normalize trailing slashes before the route allowlist lookup.

Routes matches /app/generate/ to /app/generate, but ToolRouteAnalytics passes the unchanged pathname to TOOL_BY_ROUTE.get, so it skips tool_opened. Normalize pathname or use matchPath, and add a trailing-slash test case.

Addressed the second-review trailing-slash finding in 0f243d5: tool route lookup now normalizes trailing slashes, with a regression test for /app/generate/. Fresh npm run verify passes with 926 tests.

148-148: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Gate tool_opened on successful route access.

ToolRouteAnalytics renders outside <RequireAuth>. When <RequireAuth> redirects an unauthenticated /app/* request to /login, the effect still emits tool_opened. This records false events, including denied access to /app/admin.

Mount the component inside the authenticated layout or gate the event on successful access. Add a regression test for rejected navigation.

access, including preventing events for redirected or denied /app/admin
navigation. Add a regression test covering rejected unauthenticated navigation.

Addressed the third-review access-gating finding in 4f7d386. The central route tracker now mounts inside RequireAuth, so unauthenticated redirects emit nothing. Admin is excluded from the route map and emits only after the admin API confirms authorization; denied admins emit nothing. Regression coverage was added for both cases, and fresh npm run verify passes with 926 tests.

* docs: rewrite plans around remaining work only

four reproducible items, add the PR #11 salvage plan, and delete completed

* docs: reconcile plans with merged work through PR #28

Delete five plans whose implementations shipped and were verified against
origin/main at 79b65ca: admin announcements (#19, #26), agent verification
loop (#21, #26, #27), analytics and error tracking (#16, #18, #22-#25, #28),
animation polish (#20), and search quality (#17).

Trim the Supabase staging plan to the admin environment switcher, the only

major releases (checkout, setup-node, upload/download-artifact,
