MRZ are exposed as PKCS#15 data objects, readable without a PIN.
* **PIN:** a single global user PIN protects the signing key.

## Contactless access (PACE) and the MRZ

On the v5 card, the contactless interface is protected by PACE keyed with the
**MRZ**, not with a CAN:
the MRZ is needed to open a PACE channel before any other command can be sent
over NFC. OpenSC reads it from a file named `cedulauy_mrz` in the OpenSC cache
directory (`file_cache_dir` in `opensc.conf`; by default `$HOME/.cache/opensc`
on Linux and macOS, `%USERPROFILE%\.eid\cache` on Windows).

There are several convenient ways to obtain the MRZ:

* **From the contact interface:** the MRZ is exposed as a data object readable
without a PIN (see the example below), so it can be read once over a contact
reader. The `cedulauy-tool` utility
([OpenSC#3805](https://github.com/OpenSC/OpenSC/pull/3805)) reads it this way.
* **From the printed card:** the MRZ is printed on the back of the card and can
be read optically, with a webcam or from a scanned image, with
[cedulauy-mrz-scan](https://github.com/nicolasgutierrezdev/cedulauy-mrz-scan).

## Example
