Thanks, the cell looks right: the goldens request 8 GPUs and 4 EFA devices with no 32-device carryover, and the Megatron guard hashes match upstream core_v0.15.2. A few things before merge:
1. IPC_LOCK is missing on the torch, exec and 8B paths. The other AWS EFA cells add it so the EFA provider can pin RDMA memory. In the goldens, workloadrun-torch-aws-rtxpro6000, workloadrun-exec-aws-rtxpro6000 and certification-aws-rtxpro6000-nemotron5-8b have no capabilities. MPI and loopback get it from their base runtimes. Could you add it the way the H100 cells do?
- In
workloadrun.yaml, add it withSYS_CHROOTunder{{ if eq .FrameworkType "mpi" }}. - In
aws-rtxpro6000-training-image.yaml, addIPC_LOCKalone.
Please don't put it in the shared aws-rtxpro6000-efa-resources.yaml. capabilities.add is replaced wholesale on merge, so it would drop SYS_CHROOT from the catalog NCCL (MPI) entries.
2. NVSwitch loopback isn't actually unsupported now. With rtxpro6000 in the fallback's notIn, AWS RTX renders the base config (pytorch:26.01, intra-node over PCIe). It can now pass as an "NVSwitch" loopback, where before it couldn't schedule at all. Either block it or say in the docs that it runs the generic config.
3. The Megatron guard rejects any other source. With sourceRepo, a pre-seeded workspace, or a Megatron that already has the upstream fix, the init container fails, and that only shows up as a startup stall. Could you skip with a message when ddp_stream.wait_stream(current_stream) is already present, and mention the restriction next to sourceRepo in the docs?
Nit: the header comment in roce-tcp-mpi-transport-args.yaml should mention the AWS RTX EFA cells that now use it.

Thanks for the quick turnaround. All four points from my last review are addressed, and the source guard is stricter than what I asked for. Three small things left:
-
56B on AWS RTX renders without EFA. With no override for this cell, it gets the base config: no
vpc.amazonaws.com/efarequest and the default image. Same concern as the NVSwitch loopback: it can look like a valid run. Could you either block it or note in the docs what it renders? -
CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.mdEFA guidance is out of date. Line 261 saysFI_EFA_USE_DEVICE_RDMAshould appear only for GB200 and H100 on AWS, and the table of reference counts below it has no RTX column. Both need AWS RTX now. -
Nit:
testdata/aws-rtx-ddp-guard/get_model.pyis copied from Megatron-LM, which is BSD-3-Clause, but the header says Apache-2.0. Could you switch the SPDX line and add a one-line pointer to the upstream file and tag?

Thanks, Aman! All three points are addressed, and the new 56B note and reference counts match what nvcrectl renders. LGTM.

The overlay follows the pattern the other AWS cells use, and everything I raised last time is addressed: IPC_LOCK now reaches the torch, exec and 8B paths without landing in the shared aws-rtxpro6000-efa-resources.yaml, the NVSwitch loopback caveat is written down in docs/concepts/platform-detection.md, and the guard accepts an already-synchronized get_model instead of stalling startup.
One thing I would still fix. megatron-ddp-stream-order rewrites training.py in place on a workspace that is a ReadWriteMany PVC shared by every pod of the job. pkg/catalog/entries/_lib/deps/aws-rtxpro6000-training-image.yaml:91 is a bare path.write_text(updated), with no lock and no atomic rename, which is the thing megatron-clone avoids and the thing #555 puts a flock around. Path.write_text opens with mode w, so a concurrent reader sees a truncated file: with a writer looping over the 55,811-byte module and a reader looping read_text() for 5 s, 824 of 894 reads came back zero bytes. On the pre-seeded workspace path, which is the first branch in megatron-clone and the recommendation in the sourceRepo row of docs/api-reference/certification.md, both pods skip the clone and arrive at the rewrite together. The resulting init failure does not restart either: shouldRestart ends at hasCheckpoint (pkg/controller/job_controller.go:922-953), which needs LastCheckpointStep > 0.
Could you take the same /mnt/workspace/.megatron-lm.lock that #555 introduces, re-read the digest after acquiring it, and swap path.write_text(updated) for a write to a sibling temp file plus os.replace(tmp, path)?
Two smaller ones:
-
pkg/catalog/entries/_lib/deps/aws-rtxpro6000-efa-resources.yaml:24requestsvpc.amazonaws.com/efa: "4"as a literal, right next tonvidia.com/gpu: "{{ .GpusPerNode }}".gpusPerNodeis operator-settable (api/v1alpha1/certification_types.go:205), so a user who sets it scales the GPUs and leaves the EFA request behind. Thewhenblock also matches on architecture alone, not onnode.kubernetes.io/instance-type, even thoughpkg/render/nodes/aws-rtxpro6000.yamlscopes the cell tog7e.48xlarge. Would agpu-defaults.yamlfield alongsidemlnxPerNodefit here, or gating the arm on the instance-type label so a smaller g7e falls through? -
docs/designs/103-aws-rtxpro6000-overlays.mdtakes 103, which #543 already uses for103-oci-rdma-network-detection.md. Both add a row at the same position indocs/designs/README.md, so the two conflict on merge. 104 through 107 are claimed by #510, #533, #556 and #551, which makes 108 the next free number.

All three points from my last review landed, and two of them come with tests that fail against the old code.
The serialization fix is the strongest part. pkg/catalog/entries/_lib/deps/aws-rtxpro6000-training-image.yaml:45 opens /mnt/workspace/.megatron-lm.lock and takes fcntl.LOCK_EX before reading the source, so the digest re-read is genuinely inside the lock, and the write is now a sibling NamedTemporaryFile with fchmod, fsync, os.replace and a finally unlink. I reverted each half separately in a worktree: with path.write_text(updated) back, TestAWSRTXDDPGuardSharedWorkspace/concurrent fails on REPLACEMENTS=0; with the fcntl.flock call removed it fails on the WAITING handshake. The replace-failure case, pinning the original bytes, the original mode and no .training.py.* leftovers, is more than I asked for.
The EFA request is {{ div (add (int .GpusPerNode) 1) 2 }} at aws-rtxpro6000-efa-resources.yaml:25,28, and it reaches both consumers: pkg/platform/overrides/workloadrun.yaml:499 pulls the same fragment and no RTX EFA literal survives anywhere. Reverting the template to 4 fails TestAWSRTXEFARequestScalesWithGPUs/1 with expected "1", actual "4". I walked every integration golden that carries vpc.amazonaws.com/efa and the RTX cells are all exactly ceil(gpus/2); the 4 -> 2 movement in workloadrun-mpi, workloadrun-mpi-volumes and workloadrun-mpi-aws-gb300 is the unapplied rtxpro6000 + aws entry rendered with those cases' GpusPerNode: 4, with the when unchanged, so no GB300 or generic MPI behaviour moved. 109 is free, and git grep ADR-103 at the head returns nothing.
One wording thing. ADR-109:105 says the guard holds "the same lock used by workspace preparation" and docs/concepts/platform-detection.md:182 calls it "the shared" lock, but on this branch the guard is its only holder: git grep megatron-lm.lock -- pkg/ outside tests returns one hit, and megatron-clone coordinates through mv on .megatron-lm.tmp rather than a lock. #555 is the change that makes it shared. Could both lines say that and point at #555?
One I could not settle from here. docs/concepts/platform-detection.md:145-152 lists one EFA interface on g7e.8xlarge and g7e.12xlarge. Does ceil(gpus/2) stay inside those caps at the smaller sizes? If g7e.12xlarge carries four GPUs the way g6e.12xlarge does, gpusPerNode: 4 there would ask for two devices against one advertised and the pod would sit Pending.
The red Test run is not yours. It is TestIntegration/reconcile/job-hardware-failed-no-match failing on Manager stopped: failed waiting for all runnables to end within grace period of 30s, which is a teardown timeout rather than an assertion. That case is untouched by this branch and it passes here in 8s.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
On this branch the guard is the only thing that takes this lock. git grep megatron-lm.lock -- pkg/ outside tests and testdata returns one hit, line 45 of aws-rtxpro6000-training-image.yaml, and megatron-clone in pkg/catalog/entries/training/nemotron5-8b.yaml coordinates through mv on .megatron-lm.tmp with no lock at all. Could this say the guard holds the lock to serialize against other guards, and note that #555 is what adds the clone-side holder? Same wording at docs/concepts/platform-detection.md:182.

Summary
AWS g7e RTX PRO 6000 workers inherited the H100 fallback and requested 32 EFA devices. Add an explicit AWS/RTX cell requesting one EFA interface per pair of selected GPUs, rounded up (four interfaces for eight GPUs), with a digest-pinned NVIDIA PyTorch 26.03 image that includes SM120 kernels.
Cover NCCL all-reduce, all-gather, all-to-all, EFA loopback, Nemotron 5 8B, and MPI/torch/exec WorkloadRun. Preserve caller-supplied WorkloadRun images and existing platform behavior. EFA workers request
IPC_LOCK, and MPI workers also retainSYS_CHROOT; capabilities stay separate from the shared resource fragment. The NVSwitch loopback entry renders the generic base configuration on AWS RTX; a pass on g7e does not establish NVSwitch support. Nemotron 5 56B has not been validated for this cell. Design and validation rationale are in ADR-109.For 8B, backport the missing Megatron core_v0.15.2 DDP stream dependencies using a source-hash-guarded init container. The baseline reproduced corrupted normalization weights before comparison; the synchronized case preserves correct weights on all sixteen ranks and passes the original integrity assertion. The guard changes only the inspected source hash; an already-fixed alternative source is left unchanged only when the entire
get_modelAST matches the inspected synchronized implementation, including both waits around DDP construction. Unknown sources without those waits fail initialization. The guard holds/mnt/workspace/.megatron-lm.lockto serialize patch guards, rechecks the source under that lock, then atomically replaces it from a sibling temporary file with permissions preserved. The init command has a 1200-second timeout. Clone-side locking is separate work in PR #555; the clone on this branch does not take this lock. ThesourceRepoand pre-seeded workspace restrictions are documented next to the source configuration.Related Issue

All three NCCL collectives and EFA loopback passed through 16 GiB with zero validation errors. Logs confirm RDMA, provider efa, fabric efa-direct and four NICs. MPI, torch and exec WorkloadRun smoke tests passed.
A normal catalog 8B Certification passed the original integrity check and completed ten steps without diagnostic instrumentation. Both workers exited zero, with no restarts, skipped or NaN iterations.
AWS H100/GB200/GB300 and GCP RTX regression renders match the original baseline. The rendered init script accepts original, already-patched and customized sources with the inspected synchronized

The original source still produces the exact GPU-validated patch.Temporary diagnostic infrastructure and its capacity lease are fully removed; the two GPU slots were returned to the shared reservation.
These are smoke results, not qualification thresholds. CUDA graph capture was not validated; the PyTorch AccumulateGrad stream warning remains visible. NKX-18020 final qualification awaits a released overlay; NKX-18021 owns training qualification.
