One thing blocks this for me.
validateReportPaths runs inside handleReport, which is only reached after watchCertification returns. So --results-file out/report --junit-file out/report is accepted at launch and rejected once the burn-in is already over. The check returns before report.Build, so neither file is written and nothing is printed, and the --cleanup defer still deletes the Certification. The run is gone and the only artifact left is the error string.
The --junit-file requires --wait guard this PR adds is in RunE where it belongs. The path check should sit next to it. Fix suggested inline.
Also left a note on the per-category copy of the full report in pkg/report/junit.go.

Three more on top of the existing threads. The first is blocking; the other two are not.
Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com>
…ilures Address the open review threads on the JUnit report: - A Succeeded category is always a passed testcase. A RUNNING certification whose categories all finished gets one certification-level <error> per suite instead of relabelling each finished category, and testcase details hold only the category's own JSON rather than a copy of the full report. - INCOMPLETE no longer produces errors, so the XML agrees with the exit code. The suite records result, excludedNodes and exclusionReason as <properties>. - Under a FAILED certification, an unfinished category is a <failure> carrying the Certification's own Failed condition message. A failed certification with no failed category gets one certification-level <failure>. CertReport gains failureReason to carry that message. - `certification run` rejects a --results-file and --junit-file collision in RunE, before the Certification is created, rather than after the run when --cleanup has already deleted it. - After writing the JSON and before writing the XML, the CLI checks again with os.SameFile, which catches two spellings of one file (case-insensitive filesystem, symlinked directory). Renumber the ADR to 105, since 088 is taken on main and 103 and 104 are claimed by open PRs, and add it to the ADR index. Everything from my 10-08 review is addressed at d8470c35, so I am clearing the blocking review.
validateReportPaths now runs in newRunCommand.RunE before ValidateWaitTimeout and before the Certification is created, so --results-file out/report --junit-file out/report is rejected at launch instead of after the burn-in. TestNewRunCommandRejectsSameReportPaths pins that by pointing --cert-file at a path that does not exist, which proves the check fires before the file is read. The per-category copy of the whole CertReport is gone: junitSuiteFor marshals cat into each category issue and the full report appears once, on the certification-level case.
One thing I would change before merge. ADR-105 is already taken: #533 adds docs/designs/105-kubernetes-floor-and-crd-cel-cost-budget.md, and git merge-tree --write-tree pr/447 pr/533 conflicts in docs/designs/README.md today. The renumber note on this PR checked 103 and 104, but not 105. Across the open PRs 103, 104, 106 and 107 are claimed as well, so 108 is the next free number. Renaming the file means updating docs/designs/README.md, CHANGELOG.md, docs/cli-reference/certification.md and the (ADR-105) comment in pkg/report/junit.go.
Two smaller questions inline, both your call.
The rest holds up well. encoding/xml escapes attribute values and chardata, and the cert-failed golden exercises that directly with 1 group failed: <rank-0> & "trainer". The FAILED and RUNNING arms always emit at least one <failure> or <error>, and INCOMPLETE and PASSED emit none, which lines up with nvcrectl's exit codes including the deliberate exit-0-on-INCOMPLETE rule in Build. category-results/input.json covers eleven suites, one for each shape in the ADR's table. WriteJUnit mirrors WriteJSON exactly, same os.WriteFile and same mode, so there is no new partial-file or permission behaviour.
…R-108 Address ndipebot's review: - Renumber the JUnit ADR to 108. Open PRs already claim 103 to 107. - CategoryReport gains runtimeSeconds. The JUnit time attribute comes from it instead of re-parsing the runtime display string, which drops the seconds once a category runs past an hour. - certification run --wait now fails when it cannot write the --results-file, as certification report already did, so a zero exit means every requested file is there. A failed JSON write no longer skips the JUnit write. Refs NVIDIA#446 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com>
…ds chart (#551) * docs(designs): add ADR-104 for a separate cluster-readiness-engine-crds chart Helm installs a chart's crds/ directory only on first install, so a plain helm upgrade runs the new controller against the old CRD schema and the API server silently prunes the fields it lacks. nvcrectl works around this; direct Helm, Helmfile and default Flux installs do not. The ADR proposes publishing the CRDs as their own chart, moving the main chart's CRDs into a conditional crds subchart (crds.enabled, default true), adopting existing CRDs with --take-ownership (plus --force-conflicts on Helm 4 where another writer applied them), having nvcrectl skip its CRD apply when a Helm release owns them, and signing the new chart like the main one. It amends ADR-064 decision 1. Status is Proposed, for maintainer review before implementation. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): tighten ADR-104 upgrade order and Argo CD migration CRD-first upgrades are safe only for additive schema changes: a field is removed from the CRDs only once the previous release's controller no longer writes it, since its writes would be pruned on upgrade and on rollback. The Argo CD migration now disables automated pruning on the main Application while crds.enabled is switched off, and checks that the CRDs Application tracks the CRDs first. While both Applications render the CRDs either may hold tracking, so ordering alone does not keep the main Application from pruning them. The sequence is listed as untested until the docs are validated against it. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): spell out ADR-104's Argo CD handoff, skip-crds and partial upgrades Argo CD: with self-heal, either Application can reclaim tracking of the CRDs while both render them, so the handoff is now explicit: the CRDs Application uses ServerSideApply=true, pruning on the main Application is off while crds.enabled is switched off, the CRDs Application syncs last, and pruning returns only once it alone tracks the CRDs. nvcrectl: when a Helm release owns the CRDs, setup init also passes --skip-crds to helm upgrade --install, so a first install of the main release does not re-apply the subchart's CRDs and strip the CRDs chart's ownership on Helm 4. Partial upgrades: Helm applies the CRDs one at a time, so a conflict leaves some upgraded. The docs now describe that state, why it is safe under the upgrade order, and the recovery: rerun with --force-conflicts, then upgrade the main chart. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): require complete, live ownership before nvcrectl skips CRDs crds.keep leaves the Helm ownership annotations on the CRDs after helm uninstall, so "any CRD carries meta.helm.sh/release-name" could match a release that no longer exists, and nvcrectl would stop reconciling the CRDs for good. nvcrectl now skips its apply, and passes --skip-crds, only when all seven CRDs name the same release and helm status confirms it exists. In every other case it applies the CRDs as today, warning when ownership is split. Also fixes a stray comma in the nvcrectl implementation note. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): skip nvcrectl's CRD apply only for a deployed CRDs release helm status returns a release whatever its state, so after a partial CRDs upgrade the release is failed yet still matched, and nvcrectl would upgrade the controller over partly upgraded CRDs. nvcrectl now skips its apply only when the owning release is deployed. A failed or pending-* release stops setup init before any change, with the release status and decision 6's recovery: applying the CRDs itself could downgrade CRDs the failed upgrade already moved. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): state the pass criterion for ADR-104's Argo CD migration check The Argo CD handoff is still unvalidated with automated pruning on. Before the deployment guidance ships, it is run end to end on a cluster with existing NVCRE objects, and passes only if all seven CRDs and every existing object survive the handoff and the re-enabling of pruning. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): have nvcrectl honor crds.enabled=false Decision 3 says crds.enabled=false turns the CRDs off in every tool, but decision 7 had nvcrectl apply them whenever no Helm release owned them, even when the operator set crds.enabled=false through setup init. nvcrectl now skips fetching and applying the CRDs when the release's effective values, from this run or kept from an earlier one, set crds.enabled=false. The stop for a failed or pending-* owning release still applies. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): scope crds.enabled to rendering, align nvcrectl release states helm show crds ignores dependency conditions, so crds.enabled=false turns the CRDs off wherever Helm renders the chart (install, upgrade, template, Argo CD, Flux) but not for scripts built on helm show crds. Decision 3 now says so and requires such a script, like AICR's apply-crds.sh, to be retired in the same change that sets the value; nvcrectl already reads the value itself. The nvcrectl implementation note said every non-deployed status stops setup init, contradicting decision 7. Both now list the states: deployed skips the apply, failed or pending-* stops, and uninstalled (kept by helm uninstall --keep-history) or no release applies the CRDs as today. Refs #357 Signed-off-by: Kayne Tu <kaynet@nvidia.com> * docs(designs): renumber the CRDs chart ADR to 107 ADR-104 is taken by the network attachments ADR in #510, and the open PRs #447 and #556 hold 105 and 106, so this ADR moves to 107. The ADR renumber landed and both of my questions are answered in code. Approving.
I checked the renumber at every site I listed: docs/designs/108-junit-certification-reports.md, the # ADR-108 heading, the docs/designs/README.md row, both CHANGELOG.md links, docs/cli-reference/certification.md:120 and the comment at pkg/report/junit.go:50. git grep ADR-105 on pr/447 comes back empty and git merge-tree --write-tree origin/main pr/447 is clean. Switching the CLI reference to the GitHub URL was the right call, since test/docspolicy rejects a relative ADR link from a published page.
CategoryReport.RuntimeSeconds is better than what I suggested. buildIterationReports already had the integer total and now returns it, instead of junit.go re-parsing the display string. I put the old time.ParseDuration arm back in a scratch worktree and TestWriteJUnit/junit/category-results fails with time="3600" against the expected time="3605", so the hour boundary is pinned. Restoring the warning branch in handleReport makes TestHandleReportJSONWriteErrorFails fail, and that test also stats the JUnit path to show a failed JSON write does not skip the XML write. finishCertificationWait only returns early on reportErr when !timedOut, so the timeout follow-up guidance still prints.
go build ./... and go test ./pkg/report/ ./pkg/certification/ ./test/helm/ ./test/docspolicy/ pass at pr/447.
One follow-up, here or later. docs/api-reference/validation-results.md documents results.json field by field and neither new field reached it. failureReason is missing from the top-level table at lines 609-622, and runtimeSeconds would sit right after the runtime row at line 638 in the categories table. ADR-108 calls both "additive in results.json", and that page is where the repo publishes that contract.
Left one question inline about --results-file.
certification run returns before any report exists when --wait is not set, so --results-file alone exited 0 having written nothing. The guard added for --junit-file now covers both flags, which the CLI reference already documented and which the zero-exit-means-written contract relies on. Summary
Add native JUnit XML output so CI systems can display certification results directly, without a separate converter.
Adds
--junit-file PATHtonvcrectl certification run --waitandnvcrectl certification report. Each certification becomes a test suite, with one test case per category:Uses Go’s standard library. Existing JSON output and certification exit behavior are preserved.

Testing
make lint-fix,make build, andmake testpassed.Tests cover passing, failed, incomplete, and repeated categories, XML escaping, report-write errors, and timeout reporting before cleanup.
Actual two-GPU A100 runs covered a pass, a completed threshold failure, and a timeout. GitLab ingested their native XML correctly as one passed, one failed, and one error case.
I have verified that this junit output properly shows the pass/fail criteria of multiple tests and have integrated my fork into intneral CI systems that are able to use the output natively.
