### Commit-message queries

A second, independent query set lives in `annotations_commits/`. Each query is a commit subject from the repo's own
history and its relevant files are the 1-3 non-test source files that commit changed, mined by
`benchmarks/mine_commit_queries.py`; no model writes or filters the queries. It has 2,416 queries, up to 40 per repo.

| Query set | Queries | Query words found in the target file | Queries with every word in the target |
| ------------- | ------: | -----------------------------------: | ------------------------------------: |
| `annotations` | 1,251 | 74% | 31% |
| `commits` | 2,416 | 68% | 13% |

Commit subjects describe a change rather than what a file is for, so absolute scores are lower (semble: 0.735
NDCG@10, against 0.855 on the annotations). The set is most useful for checking that a ranking change isn't tuned to
how the annotations were written.

```bash
uv run python -m benchmarks.mine_commit_queries # (re)mine from history-only clones
uv run python -m benchmarks.run_benchmark --query-set commits
uv run python -m benchmarks.baselines.ablations --query-set commits
```

## Methods

- **[ripgrep](https://github.com/BurntSushi/ripgrep)**: fast regex search over files, included as a raw keyword-match baseline.
