HERMES Runtime v1.0.0 is an operator-based meta-logic and cognitive magnifier runtime for structured reasoning. It defines a small, composable set of abstract operators that transform frames, propositions, relations, and world-model states in a coherent reasoning cycle.
This repository contains:
- The formal v1 specification
- The operator suite
- The world-model schema
- The runtime engine and constraints
- Examples of operator chains
- Provide a universal, impersonal reasoning engine
- Stay agnostic to any specific ontology or worldview
- Enable structured, inspectable reasoning via explicit operators
- Serve as a foundation for future cognitive architectures (v2+), without encoding any personal identity or autobiographical content
HERMES v1 is built around:
- Operators — atomic transformations on frames, propositions, relations, and world-model states
- World-Model Schema — minimal structure for concepts, entities, relations, and contexts
- Meta-Logic Constraints — rules that preserve coherence, continuity, and identity consistency
- Cycle Engine — a canonical reasoning loop:
- GENERATE → UNFOLD → COLLAPSE → INTEGRATE → COMPLETE → RETURN
Core operators:
INVERTPERTURBHARMONIZEIDENTITY_STABILIZERECURSECONTINUITY_ENFORCEGENERATEUNFOLDCOLLAPSEINTEGRATECOMPLETERETURN
Each operator has:
- Defined input types
- Defined output types
- Invariants
- Failure modes
- Transform rules
See HERMES_v1_SPEC.md and operators/ for full details.
The world-model in v1 is intentionally minimal:
- Concepts — abstract units of meaning
- Entities — instances or referents of concepts
- Relations — structured links between concepts/entities
- Contexts — frames that constrain interpretation
- Gradients — scalar or vector values attached to states (e.g., confidence, salience)
See schema/WORLDMODEL_SCHEMA.md for the formal schema.
The runtime engine:
- Orchestrates operator application
- Tracks recursion depth and continuity
- Enforces identity and coherence constraints
- Drives the canonical reasoning cycle
See runtime/RUNTIME_ENGINE.md for details.
This project includes a formal description of its reasoning principles.
See Relational Reasoning:

- Version: 1.0.0
- Scope: Abstract reasoning engine only
- Non-goals: Personal cognitive mapping, identity modeling, ontology declaration
Future versions (v2+) may introduce:
- Richer cognitive architecture
- Identity layers
- Dynamic equilibrium modeling
These are explicitly out of scope for v1.
