408-412: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAdd Route53 boundary regression coverage.
The supplied
internal/external-dns/provider/aws/aws_test.gocase passesValue: aws.String("random")and expectsrandom. This case passes without the new read conversion. The supplied tests also do not show a write-side assertion forquoteTXTRecord.Add cases for:
- a quoted Route53 value that reads as an unquoted endpoint target;
- an unquoted endpoint target that writes with one surrounding quote pair;
- an already quoted target that remains unchanged.

🟡 Minor · Do not report endpoint deletion when removing the final active group. · shared.go:183-231
cmd/plugin/failover/shared.go:183-231
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not report endpoint deletion when removing the final active group.
When
postRemovalGroupsis empty,AnalyseGroupRemovalImpacttreats registry ownership from inactive groups as removable and reportsDELETEorMODIFY. The command only deletes the active-groups TXT record. No active grouped controller remains to rununpublishInactiveGroups, so the DNS endpoint remains unchanged. Dry-run therefore reports an incorrect endpoint action.Return no endpoint impacts when the removal leaves no active groups.

Decode Route 53 TXT values without discarding data.
For a valid TXT value such as "abc\"", strings.Trim removes both the closing delimiter and the escaped final quotation mark. The target becomes abc\; a later change cannot reconstruct the original value. A multi-string value such as "first" "second" also remains partly encoded in the target. Parse the Route 53 quoted-string format and preserve the decoded TXT content. (docs.aws.amazon.com)

This can be valid, but rather an edge-case with quotations placement not introduced by this PR. Might be worth fixing in the future

@averevki, agreed that this is an edge case. The strings.Trim call is new in this PR, though, and it can discard an escaped quotation mark from a Route 53 TXT value. I’ll leave the finding open without blocking this PR. Would you like a follow-up issue for the TXT decoder?

Fixes
Domain filtering fix (GCP, Azure): The per-zone provider in
add-active-groupandremove-active-groupCLI commands usedRegexDomainFilterwith pattern^zone.example.com$, which only matches the exact zone name. The active groups TXT record name iskuadrant-active-groups.zone.example.com— a subdomain that doesn't match the regex. Azure'sUpdateRecords()/DeleteRecords()silently skips records that don't match the domain filter, so writes appeared to succeed but never actually applied. GCP had the same filtering issue. Switched to list-basedDomainFilter{Filters: []string{domain}}which matches subdomains. Theget-active-groupscommand already used the correct filter.TXT record quoting fix (AWS): The shared failover code wrapped TXT record values in literal double quotes (
"\"version=1;groups=...\""). AWS Route53 requires this quoting at the API level, but GCP and Azure APIs accept raw, with literal quotes get stored as data, corrupting the value. Moved quoting responsibility solely into the AWS provider, accordingly adjusting the quotes in the existing tests.Verification
