Motivation

  • The release job in the CI pipeline was failing, likely due to outdated action versions and old base images used by those actions.
  • Upgrade workflow actions to use maintained releases to ensure the release step runs on current runner images and newer dependencies.

Description

  • Updated actions/checkout usages from v3 to v4 in the commitlint and release jobs.
  • Bumped python-semantic-release from v8.7.0 to v10.6.1 for the release step.
  • Replaced the removed/legacy python-semantic-release/upload-to-gh-release@v8.7.0 with python-semantic-release/publish-action@v10.6.1 and explicitly pass the generated tag output.
  • Adjusted the workflow comment to reflect the new semantic-release major version.

Testing

  • Ran git diff --check which returned clean without whitespace or diff errors. (succeeded)
  • Attempted to parse the updated workflow with python - <<'PY' ... yaml.safe_load(...) ... PY but it failed due to ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'yaml' in this environment, so YAML validation was not completed. (failed)
