Johnny J. Andersen

Seasoned engineering leader and self-proclaimed Internet Wizard / King of the Internet, based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I have spent 25+ years building and scaling internet platforms, SaaS products, marketplaces, and data-heavy systems used by millions of people. I like the space where complex systems, pragmatic product thinking, engineering craftsmanship, and real-world impact meet.

My interests include scalable backend systems, cloud infrastructure, AI/ML, developer experience, green tech, investment platforms, and data-driven products.

What I Do

  • Lead engineering teams across web, mobile, data, and platform
  • Build and scale cloud-native SaaS systems
  • Turn messy real-world domains into useful software
  • Align product, engineering, and business strategy
  • Improve developer experience, architecture, and delivery flow
  • Ship pragmatic systems that can survive real usage

Selected Experience

Building cloud-native tools that optimize global port operations and help reduce CO₂ emissions in container shipping.
Tech: TypeScript, Node.js, GCP, Postgres, Terraform, GraphQL

CTO - Tonsser

Scaled one of Europe’s largest youth football platforms to millions of players and fans across multiple countries.
Tech: Ruby on Rails, Heroku, Android, iOS, GraphQL, Cloudflare Stream

CTO - Autobutler

Scaled a pan-European marketplace for car repairs across multiple countries, thousands of workshops, and around 200k monthly users.
Tech: Ruby on Rails, Heroku, Postgres, React, SEO at scale

Founding Engineer / CTO - Copenhagen Shipping Exchange

Built early modern platforms for global shipping data, including intelligent email ingestion, cargo and vessel search, large shipping databases, and Outlook/server-side email plugins.
Tech: Java, PHP, MySQL, C#, CouchDB, VMware

CTO - EuroInvestor

Joined as the first developer, later becoming CTO through EuroInvestor’s IPO on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

EuroInvestor was one of Europe’s larger investment platforms, covering market data, investor tools, communities, newsletters, international portals, and products such as Valutakurser.dk. I also helped build internal finance, billing, retention, and advertising systems, including an ad platform used by both EuroInvestor and Boliga.dk.
Tech: C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, MS SQL Server, IIS

How I Think About Engineering

I care about engineering craftsmanship: systems that are simple enough to operate, strong enough to scale, and clear enough for teams to own.

Good engineering is not just code. It is architecture, product judgment, delivery habits, observability, data quality, and the culture that lets teams make good decisions without waiting for permission.

I like deleting complexity, tightening feedback loops, and building teams that ship fast without pretending quality is optional.
