chore(db): mirror the m2 extension observation migrations from dos-me - #1611
Mirrors the M2 extension observation migrations from DOS/DOS.Me into the reference copy here. DOS.Me stays the only deployable ledger, and nothing is applied by this PR.
What
Four migrations, byte for byte from DOS.Me dev:
20261106160000_rate_extension_observations.sql (DOS.Me#1560): the quarantine tables and RPCs.
20261106160100_rate_extension_ingest_key.sql (DOS.Me#1560): the first ingest key row.
20261106160200_rate_extension_observations_purge_schedule.sql (DOS.Me#1564): the daily pg_cron purge.
20261107100000_rate_extension_ingest_key_rotation.sql (DOS.Me#1569): the key row rotation.
packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts, regenerated with pnpm gen:db-types. It adds extension_ingest_secret, extension_observations and extension_submitters, and the register_extension_submitter, submit_extension_observation, delete_extension_submitter and purge_extension_observations functions.
scripts/test-extension-observations-proposal.mjs: the reference stack now has the quarantine, so the proposal replay rolls it back first, with the key row that goes with it, and still replays from the stack before it. This is the same fixchore(db): mirror the rs#739 and p6 migrations from dos-me #1587 made for P6.
Checks (local)
scripts/check-migration-drift.mjs reports all four files identical to DOS.Me dev.
scripts/test-migration-replay.mjs: 39 migrations applied twice on PostgreSQL 17, passed.
scripts/test-extension-observations-proposal.mjs: passed (39 valid and 128 refused payloads agree with the TypeScript validator; ingest key, limits, delete, purge and its race, grants, verify and rollback).
Not part of this PR
The drift check also lists four older differences, none from M2:
20261013192302_jreviews_rating_and_review_flags.sql and 20261014011054_review_votes.sql differ from DOS.Me.
20261025090000_rate_product_images_bucket.sql and 20261106150000_rate_listing_price_context_peer_max_history_first.sql exist only in DOS.Me.
This PR introduces the "Extension Observations" quarantine system (Milestone M2), adding database tables, strict validation RPCs, and retention schedules to securely ingest and store unverified crowd-sourced price data from browser extensions. It also includes a key rotation migration and updates the TypeScript database types to reflect the new schema.

Summary of Changes
packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts
Updates the Database type definition to include the new extension_ingest_secret, extension_observations, and extension_submitters tables, along with their associated RPC functions (register, submit, delete, purge).
scripts/test-extension-observations-proposal.mjs
Adds a rollback step to the test script to ensure the proposal replays correctly on a clean stack before the quarantine migration is applied.
Core Migration: Creates the three new tables with strict RLS policies. Defines four RPCs: register_extension_submitter (with rate limiting), submit_extension_observation (with extensive field-by-field validation and rate limiting), delete_extension_submitter (GDPR/privacy erasure), and purge_extension_observations (retention cleanup).
Rotates the ingest key hash, replacing the initial key with a new one generated after the first key was lost before deployment.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Extension integrations can register submitters and submit observations for review. Submissions are validated and subject to limits to help prevent abuse.
Observation data is quarantined before use, and retention cleanup runs automatically to remove older records.
DOS/DOS.Me#1560 (quarantine and key row), #1564 (daily purge schedule) and
#1569 (key row rotation) carry #1606. The quarantine and the
purge schedule are on production through #1561 and #1568; #1569 is merged
on dev. Mirror the four migrations byte for byte into supabase/migrations
and regenerate packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts: the three
extension tables and the register, submit, delete and purge functions.
The extension observations proposal replay now rolls the mirrored
quarantine back first, so it still replays from the stack before it.
Nothing is applied by this change.

The change adds database tables, RPCs, access controls, and shared types for extension submitter registration and quarantined observation ingestion. It also adds submitter deletion, retention and purge scheduling, ingest-key provisioning and rotation, and a proposal replay rollback step.
Changes: Extension observation ingestion
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Ingest tables and access supabase/migrations/20261106160000_rate_extension_observations.sql, packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts
The migration creates the ingest-secret, submitter, and observation tables with constraints, indexes, and role-based access policies. Shared database types now include the tables and relationships.
Submitter registration and observation submission supabase/migrations/20261106160000_rate_extension_observations.sql, packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts
The RPCs check the ingest key and network hash, validate submitter registrations and observation fields, enforce rate limits, and store accepted observations as quarantined. Shared types include the RPC arguments and return types.
Submitter deletion and retention supabase/migrations/20261106160000_rate_extension_observations.sql, packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts
The migration adds submitter deletion with cascading observation removal and a purge RPC that clears old network hashes, deletes old observations, and removes eligible empty submitters. It sets RPC execution grants, and shared types include the lifecycle RPCs.
Key provisioning and purge scheduling supabase/migrations/20261106160100_rate_extension_ingest_key.sql, supabase/migrations/20261107100000_rate_extension_ingest_key_rotation.sql, supabase/migrations/20261106160200_rate_extension_observations_purge_schedule.sql, scripts/test-extension-observations-proposal.mjs
The migrations provision and rotate the stored ingest-key hash and schedule the purge when pg_cron is available. The proposal replay script runs rollback SQL before replaying the proposal.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 12def
The RPC ingestion path validates extractor fields, but direct privileged writes can store incomplete metadata. Purging also has avoidable scanning and contention costs whose operational magnitude is unknown. The change is mergeable with bounded owner awareness and follow-up; no current key mismatch or missing production purge schedule was established.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "chore(db): mirror the m2 extension observation migrations from dos-me" follows Conventional Commits and names the main change: four M2 extension-observation migrations copied from DOS.Me, plus the regenerated database types. It is specific enough for a teammate scanning history. The title does not mention the proposal-replay script change or the key rotation, but the task allows that.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template well. It covers the summary (what changed and why, with the DOS.Me reference and the statement that nothing is applied by this PR), lists the affected files, and reports local checks with results. It also explains the scope exclusions and the four older drift differences. The template's checklist items (build, typecheck, lint, docs, breaking API) are not ticked or reported. The 'Notes' section (affected areas, reviewers) is absent. The Type of Change section is filled in, but it marks CI/Configuration while the change is database migrations. These gaps are non-critical, so the check passes.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The only linked issue is #1587. Its state is closed, and it is marked as historical context only. Under the assessment rules, it does not supply coding requirements for this PR. No active directly linked targets remain, so no linked-issue coding requirements apply. The PR description cites #1606 ("Refs #1606"). #1606 is not in the linked issue list, so it is not assessed as a requirement source.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes match the PR description's stated intent: mirror four M2 extension-observation migrations from DOS.Me dev, with no apply to the reference stack. The changed files at the reviewed head are: (1) four migrations under supabase/migrations, namely 20261106160000_rate_extension_observations.sql, 20261106160100_rate_extension_ingest_key.sql, 20261106160200_rate_extension_observations_purge_schedule.sql, and 20261107100000_rate_extension_ingest_key_rotation.sql; (2) packages/shared-data/src/database.types.ts, which adds the three extension tables and four RPC types described in the PR; and (3) scripts/test-extension-observations-proposal.mjs. The script diff against the merge base is a single added rollback call, with a comment, before the proposal replay. This rollback removes the quarantine migration that the PR adds, so the change is tied to this PR. The four older non-M2 drift files named in the PR description are not in this diff. Byte-for-byte identity with DOS.Me dev was not independently verified; it rests on the author's drift check report. That does not affect scope.

Autofix · Keep fixing CodeRabbit findings and required CI, and resolving merge conflicts
Thanks for using CodeRabbit! It's free for OSS, and your support helps us grow. If you like it, consider giving us a shout-out.
Add CI coverage for the migrated extension observation functions.
The proposal suite runs the proposal rollback at lines 113-115. It then tests only the proposal SQL. The migrated submit_extension_observation and purge_extension_observations functions are not called by any CI step. The replay test checks only that the migration applies. The drift check compares file bytes with DOS.Me and is not run in CI. A behavioral change in the migrated functions can therefore pass CI.
Add a behavioral check that runs against the migrated schema. Alternatively, add an equivalence check between the migration and the proposal SQL that CI runs.

Reject a missing source or extension_version key in the extractor CHECK.
In SQL, a missing key yields NULL in the extension_version type and regex checks. PostgreSQL passes a CHECK when its expression is NULL. A direct service_role insert of {"source": "dom"} is therefore stored. Change the constraint to require both keys to exist.

Add an index that leads with received_at for the purge.
Both purge statements filter on received_at alone. The three existing observation indexes all lead with another column, so neither statement can narrow its range by received_at. Each daily run can read the full quarantine, and that cost grows as rows accumulate across the 180-day retention window.
This file mirrors DOS.Me dev byte for byte. Apply the same index change in the DOS.Me source, or the migration drift check will fail.

Empty-submitter purge holds row locks until the whole purge commits.
The purge locks every empty submitter older than p_empty_submitter_days with FOR UPDATE OF s SKIP LOCKED. It collects them into one uuid[] and deletes them in the same transaction. Each lock lasts until that transaction commits.
Submit (line 512) and erasure (line 565) take a FOR UPDATE lock on the same row. While the purge holds that lock, these calls wait. The wait ends at purge commit. The wait grows with the number of due submitters, because the candidate select and delete run over all of them before commit. Only submitters with no observations are affected.
A batch limit on the candidate select would shorten this window. It would also leave due submitters past the documented seven-day deletion when more than the limit become due in one run. Registration allows up to 600 new submitters per minute, so that backlog is possible. Do not add a limit without also changing that retention behavior.
