Split out from #850 at Mike's request (comment), after Ludo identified a case where the external galaxy mask did not fit its galaxy well.
Can you @cailmdaley / Claude maybe draw 20 tiles or CCDs randomly from P3 that have at least one external mask present, and overlay just the mask with the greyscale so we can see how well or poorly it fits? (It looks better if its just an outline not a filled-in coloured polygon.)
Plan: draw 20 random P3 tiles containing at least one manual galaxy-mask region (bit 8 — the product Ludo flagged; star masks are present on essentially every tile, so they'd make the selection criterion vacuous), and plot the tile greyscale with external-mask outlines (contours, not filled), colored by mask reason. Figures dumped in a comment below, gist-hosted as in #850.
Part of epic #845.
