`apnet_pt.mace` fuses a frozen MACE-POLAR backbone into the AP-Net3-D3 pair model: the backbone supplies the per-atom representation that AP-Net's own atomic MPNN otherwise would, and eleven registered routes differ in which part of it they read and where they inject it. The backbone is never embedded. MACE-POLAR-1-S is under the ACEsuit Academic Software License, so it is loaded from a local file by SHA-256, frozen, and recorded in checkpoints by digest and locator only -- MACE is not even imported until the digest matches. `setup.cfg` excludes `*.model`/`*.ckpt` from package data so a local copy cannot reach a wheel, and the v3 checkpoint writer omits every `featurizer.backbone.` tensor while still accounting for the parameters by count. Everything is optional and lazy. `apnet_pt.mace` exposes its schema dataclasses eagerly and resolves adapters through `__getattr__`, so a base install without `mace-torch` is unaffected; the dependency set lives under the `mace` extra. Two things the tests are deliberate about: - Widths. `POLAR_1S_INVARIANT_DIMS` and `POLAR_1S_EQUIVARIANT_CHANNELS` exist so a pair core can be sized before a featurizer exists. A stub agreeing with them proves only that two invented numbers match, so they are checked against the real artifact in `tests/test_mace_integration_polar.py`, behind a digest-verified gate that skips when unset and fails when `QCMLFORGE_REQUIRE_POLARMACE=1`. Everything else runs on `tests/mace_stub_harness.py` and needs no artifact. - `MACE_E3NN_AXIS_PERMUTATION`. A contraction against MACE's equivariant output that uses the wrong axis order is not rotationally invariant, but it raises nothing and still trains, so the constant is asserted against MACE's own permutation function rather than restated. `_graph_longrange_compat` supplies the `dim_size` that `graph_longrange` 0.4.0 omits from one real-space scatter. Without it, a batch whose trailing monomer contributes no edges -- a monatomic monomer, whose duplicates are all masked out of the complete graph -- truncates the per-node energy vector and fails the next scatter. The patch is keyed to the digest of the defective source and is a no-op for every other batch. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Move exhaustive pair validation out of the hot path without weakening the batch contract.
LongRangeSAPTProvider.forward repeats the per-dimer masks, torch.Tensor.tolist() conversions, and Python tuple sets for every full edge on every provider call. For accelerator batches, this can force host synchronization and materially reduce training throughput.
The dataset builders construct the full Cartesian edge union during batch creation, so trusted batches can validate once and carry that state forward. Do not disable this branch by default: rank and length checks still accept missing or duplicated pairs. Keep exhaustive validation for unvalidated or externally supplied batches, or require explicit validation before inference.

Serialize every supported hash-relevant PhysicsConfig field.
The mandatory physics record omits thole_direct, thole_mutual, scf_tolerance, scf_max_iterations, scf_nonconvergence, scf_convergence_norm, and induction_model. Non-default values for these fields change physics_hash.
The loader passes only config and the external backbone to model_factory. A factory that constructs PhysicsConfig from the record must therefore use defaults for omitted fields. _validate_reconstructed_mace_model then raises a physics-hash mismatch for a non-default original configuration.
Store and validate these settings. Add a v3 round-trip test with a non-default setting.

Do not silently assume singlet multiplicity for direct callers.
An existing caller can omit these new parameters for an open-shell monomer. dimer_fused_data then stores 1, so _stack_monomer_metadata treats the metadata as supplied and does not warn. MACE receives incorrect spin metadata and can produce incorrect features.
Use None defaults and preserve the missing value until the warning and substitution path, or make both parameters required. Add a focused regression test for an omitted open-shell multiplicity.

The route tests all substitute StubLongRangeProvider, so two defects in the default backends went unseen: - The induction kernel predated the split Thole damping and diagnostics contract, so every default-route call raised TypeError on thole_damping_param_direct. Port the extended kernel; default kwargs keep the historical math. - The undamped electrostatics branch passed [natom, 1] charges into mtp_elst, whose in-place ZA subtraction broadcast them to [natom, natom]. Also reject unknown checkpoint versions instead of reading them as v2, and fail rather than skip when a configured PolarMACE artifact path is missing.
