MVP web app to discover 1300+ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms worldwide.

Setup

1. Install dependencies

npm install

2. Configure Supabase

1. Create a Supabase project at https://supabase.com
2. Copy .env.local.example to .env.local and fill in your credentials:

cp .env.local.example .env.local

3. Run the schema in Supabase SQL editor — copy the contents of supabase/schema.sql and execute it.

3. Import club data

npm install -D tsx dotenv
npx tsx src/data/import-clubs.ts

After import, run this SQL in Supabase to populate the PostGIS location column:

UPDATE clubs
SET location = ST_MakePoint(lng, lat)::geography
WHERE lat IS NOT NULL AND lng IS NOT NULL AND location IS NULL;

4. Run locally

npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000

Deploy to Vercel

Set environment variables in Vercel dashboard:

• NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL
• NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY
• NEXT_PUBLIC_CARTO_API_KEY (map tiles are watermarked without it)

.env.local also needs NEXT_PUBLIC_CARTO_API_KEY, and SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY for admin scripts.

Data

• Sources (column source): ibjjf (~89 %), cfjjb (France, with emails), affiliation networks, bjj_globetrotters, club_request (added on a gym's request).
• curated_v2 was AI-generated during prototyping and is not verified (drop-in flags removed on 2026-09-30).
• verified = true means the gym confirmed its info directly.
• Bulk data fixes live in supabase/fix-data-*.sql and are run manually in the Supabase SQL editor after a backup.

SEO notes

• Club pages with no contact/info signal are noindex and excluded from the sitemap.
• City slugs map spaces to -; the city page matches - against space or hyphen (ILIKE _).
• /city/lisboa and /city/warszawa redirect (308) to /city/lisbon and /city/warsaw.
