From b238a0636361014b0c0e7d3f799351d36ba3414c Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: metif12 Date: Wed, 7 Oct 2026 09:47:28 +0330 Subject: [PATCH] tr: translate+squeeze, truncate, full class set, repeats and error paths Follow-up to #239. Parse and behavior work measured against GNU 9.4 and uutils 0.0.17 on this machine: proper -c complement (positional over 256 bytes), -t truncation after complementing, -s with two sets (translate then squeeze SET2), short-SET2 last-char repetition, all POSIX classes, octal and alert/backspace/formfeed/vertical-tab escapes, [c*n]/[c*] repeats, and the two operand-error paths (exit 1, empty stdout). Known residuals are noted in code comments: -ct follows GNU where uutils differs, extra operands are ignored with -d like uutils rather than rejected like GNU, and [= =] equivalence classes are not implemented. --- README.md | 2 +- src/tr/tr.v | 269 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++------ src/tr/tr_test.v | 94 +++++++++++++++-- 3 files changed, 325 insertions(+), 40 deletions(-) diff --git a/README.md b/README.md index b77a441..7fd9d4a 100644 --- a/README.md +++ b/README.md @@ -146,7 +146,7 @@ compare against the true GNU coreutils version on the Linux-based tests first. | ✓ | test | Check file types and compare values | ✓ | | ✓ | timeout | Run a command with a time limit | | | ✓ | touch | Change file timestamps | ✓ | -| | tr | Translate, squeeze, and/or delete characters | ✓ | +| ✓ | tr | Translate, squeeze, and/or delete characters | ✓ | | ✓ | true | Do nothing, successfully | ✓ | | ✓ | truncate | Shrink or extend the size of a file | ✓ | | ✓ | tsort | Topological sort | ✓ | diff --git a/src/tr/tr.v b/src/tr/tr.v index 86d6ddb..0380a64 100644 --- a/src/tr/tr.v +++ b/src/tr/tr.v @@ -9,6 +9,7 @@ mut: delete bool squeeze bool complement bool + truncate bool set1 string set2 string } @@ -25,7 +26,8 @@ fn tr(set Settings) { if set.delete && set.squeeze { mut prev := u8(0) for b in input { - if set.set1.contains(b.ascii_str()) { + in_set1 := set.set1.contains(b.ascii_str()) + if (!in_set1 && set.complement) || (in_set1 && !set.complement) { continue } if set.set2.len > 0 && set.set2.contains(b.ascii_str()) && b == prev { @@ -36,32 +38,60 @@ fn tr(set Settings) { } } else if set.delete { for b in input { - if set.set1.contains(b.ascii_str()) { + in_set1 := set.set1.contains(b.ascii_str()) + if (!in_set1 && set.complement) || (in_set1 && !set.complement) { continue } output << b } - } else if set.squeeze { + } else if set.squeeze && set.set2.len == 0 { + // Squeeze-only: -s with a single SET.
