Why don't you use the GPL instead of MIT license?
A significant part of the coreutils is its GPL scheme.

Both licenses have their advantages and disadvantages. We use the MIT license because the people, who started the project a decade ago, used it. And we respect this decision. In addition, changing the license would cause "badwill" towards our project: people integrating our tools into their projects would either have to stop using our tools or have to change the licenses of their own projects.

GNU protected against this. All the warnings from the issues created should have been listened to, instead of being rejected and disallowing discussion.

Microsoft has been contributing the this project. So, not sure what is your point.

My main reason for favouring copyleft licenses like GPL is to make sure open source code remains open source and can't be used in proprietary projects, unless under conditions about openness, like LGPL.

It's not worth my time elaborating any further than that. I probably wouldn't be able to convince you even if I did.
