This hardcoded value actually dates back to the initial release from 2011.

When I converted SAML-tracer to a WebExtension in 2017, I also stumbled across this detail, but found no way to determine the version programmatically.
But even today I can't find a way to do that. Neither in the Chrome webRequest documentation nor at MDN can I find anything about this.

However, I agree that a hard-coded value could very easily be misleading...

@khlr for Firefox you can use statusLine https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/API/webRequest/onCompleted#statusline

with something along the lines of:

I think the statusLine property of the onCompleted event is the same as the one from onHeadersReceived that we're already using.
But that's the HTTP version of the response which isn't necessarily the same as the HTTP version form the request. And that's what we're looking for: A replacement of the hardcoded request version.
