Multiple issues: video stuttering, system freezes, and screen flash after suspend

System information

• OS: Linux Mint 22.3 Zena
• Desktop: Cinnamon
• Kernel: 6.17.0-35-generic
• Laptop: ASUS TUF A15
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7445HS
• GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050 4GB
• RAM: 16 GB
• Architecture: x86_64

Issues I'm experiencing

1. Screen briefly appears after waking from sleep

When the system wakes from suspend, the previous screen is sometimes briefly visible for a fraction of a second before the lock/password screen appears.

This happens everytime.

I noticed that this appears to be similar to Issue linuxmint/cinnamon-screensaver#509, where another Linux Mint 22.3 user reported the same behavior.

2. Video stuttering

I sometimes experience noticeable video stuttering/freezing during normal use. It can happen while watching videos and does not seem to be limited to one particular application.

3. System freezes when copying

Occasionally, when I copy something using Ctrl+C or the context menu, the entire desktop/system becomes unresponsive.

The freeze is severe enough that I sometimes have to wait or force a reboot.

I haven't been able to find a consistent way to reproduce this yet.

Additional information

These issues appear to happen randomly, and I haven't been able to identify a single application or action that consistently triggers them.

I'm reporting them together because they seem potentially related to the desktop/graphics/power-management stack.

I can provide logs, inxi -Fxxxz output, or any other debugging information if needed.

Unlikely to be a cinnamon-settings-daemon issue, I suggest you use the linuxmint forum to gain more insight to your issue before bugging us again.

I understand that these issues may not be related to cinnamon-settings-daemon, and I’m perfectly fine with investigating them elsewhere.

That said, “before bugging us again” is a rather unnecessary way to respond to a user who is simply reporting problems they are experiencing. I’m a user reporting symptoms, not a developer claiming to know which component is responsible.

If the issue is out of scope, a simple “this doesn’t appear to be related to cinnamon-settings-daemon; please investigate it on the Linux Mint forum” would have made the same point without the attitude.
