New release planned?

Hi, we’re currently pulling :grpc as a github dependency (pinned to a recent commit on master) because we need an unreleased client feature: support for naming a virtual channel so repeated GRPC.Stub.connect/2 calls can reuse a stable channel identity (#491)

Is there any planned release soon, so we can switch back to Hex?

Hi @smartinio

We’re planning to cut a new release still this week, which will include that client feature, so you should be able to switch back to Hex very soon.

At the moment, we’re just wrapping up a small detail around package naming, since this release will split the client and server into separate Hex packages. That’s the only thing holding us before we ship.

Let us know if anything else comes up in the meantime!

@sleipnir @polvalente any updates on this? I'd like to update to 1.0.0-rc.1 to fix the memory leak issue in 0.11.5 but for whatever reason using the git tag pinned on that commit (cf3e8e902e57f2099072446119d7667f01d90b1f) won't work, when I try to compile I get the following error:

How do you have deps declared on your mix.exs? Can you provide the relevant rows in mix.lock as well?

I was able to successfully update to 1.0.0-rc.1 at TV Labs.

Keep in mind that client and server were split into 2 libraries!

It should! I suspect grpc_core didn't compile somehow. Can you try to force compile it?

I've run mix deps.get at the project level already; do I need to run it inside deps/grpc? That doesn't seem to work either, I get the same message about GRPC.Status. Are you able to reproduce in a new project with the deps I have above?

At this point I'd try removing deps and _build and doing the process again.

Okay, this is a bit silly, I needed to add :sparse to the dependency to get it working:

Ah, I totally missed this! 1.0.0-rc.1 is released on Hex. No need to use git deps

I see that, it was published on April 8th. Not really marked on :hex since it's a release candidate, I guess. Maybe mark this issue as closed since it was posted April 2nd? Also maybe tag/mark the release on GitHub so others won't have this problem in the future?

I'm working on official GRPC Streaming support on broadway's google cloud pub sub library (elixir-broadway/broadway_cloud_pub_sub#109) and I want to wait until the 1.0 grpc release to pin that version.

Can we get some hints on the plans for the release? The rc1 was on april 8 and a lot of things has been fixed/merged.

We're close to finalizing it, still analyzing some PRs to decide what can be included or not. I believe we'll have a new version available in hex soon, but I can't promise a date yet.
