Summary
Build a community workflow exchange where users can export successful workflow configurations as shareable templates, browse community-contributed templates within TalkTerm, and import them with avatar-guided customization. After completing a workflow, the avatar asks "Want to share this as a template for others?" and guides the user through sanitization and publishing. Templates include prompt structure, MCP tool configuration, and output format but strip sensitive workspace data. A GitHub Discussions-based registry provides zero-infrastructure community hosting.
Market Signal
Template marketplaces are now table stakes for agent platforms in 2026. Gamut offers 131+ templates across 21 categories. n8n has 600+ community-built templates. Dify provides an agentic workflow marketplace. Microsoft Copilot Studio enables non-technical template creation. Yet none of these serve non-technical users with a voice-first, avatar-guided experience. The contribution UX (not just consumption) is where most platforms fail — making sharing as easy as speaking is a differentiator that no competitor has achieved.
User Signal
Existing idea #244 (Workflow Template Gallery) proposes curated starting points but doesn't address the community contribution loop — it's consumption-only. The PRD identifies the BMAD community as the initial distribution channel and feedback loop. Community-contributed templates create a network effect — each shared template makes TalkTerm more valuable to every other user, driving organic growth beyond the initial BMAD community. Template marketplace adoption data shows that platforms with user contribution see 3-5x faster template library growth.
Technical Opportunity
TalkTerm's session persistence (SQLite via
better-sqlite3) already records workflow steps, tool invocations, and output structures. Template extraction is serializing a successful session's decision tree minus workspace-specific data. The MCP tool configuration is already declarative. Templates can be stored as JSON manifests with the prompt structure, required MCP tools, expected output format, and metadata. A GitHub Discussions-based registry (already used for ideas) provides zero-infrastructure community hosting. The avatar handles import/customization conversationally, lowering the barrier vs visual builders.Assessment
Adversarial Review
Strongest objection: A single-developer project can't build and moderate a community marketplace. Template quality varies wildly, and bad templates could produce poor first-run experiences that damage TalkTerm's reputation.
Rebuttal: v1 uses GitHub Discussions as the registry (already in use for ideas), with templates as JSON attachments — zero infrastructure. The avatar-guided import flow includes a "try it first" sandbox step before committing. Community-driven moderation (upvotes, flags) scales without developer effort. The Claude Outcomes integration (separate proposal) provides automatic quality gates for any template-based workflow. Starting with 5-10 curated BMAD templates, then opening contribution, provides a quality floor.
Suggested Next Step
Design the workflow template JSON schema (prompt structure, MCP tool list, output format, metadata, compatibility version) and implement an export-from-session function that sanitizes a completed workflow's decision tree into a shareable template.
