Submit to JIBLM or AIM Open Textbook Initiative?

For advertising our work, as well as our own P&T considerations, it may be worth our time to package things up to be considered for inclusion on http://jiblm.org/guides/index.php?category=jiblmjournal and/or https://aimath.org/textbooks/.

I don't like that JIBLM only hosts static PDFs, but I guess we can always put a URL to the PreTeXt version in the front matter. I think the question is not "Is it worth our time", but rather do we do it now, or after our IUSE group improves things more.

AIM Open Textbook assumes that the text is being actively improved for what it's worth. But I had the same idea for JIBLM: submit a PDF, with the note that we'll continue to develop the text.

It's probably worth considering what "authorship" means for this text once our collaborators pitch in. I guess at that stage, we move from being authors to being editors. 🤷

But I suppose that since the point of this grant is to improve these resources and create similar Calculus resources, it makes sense to wait until that work is completed first.

Another option is maybe to package a snapshot of the text for JIBLM for the near future, for exposure of our work. Then we can take the expanded resources and submit that to AIM in three years.

Sounds like we are pretty much in agreement then. I want to have a stable version ready for mid-January so I can share the PreTeXt version with my students, why don't we snapshot then and send that to JIBLM. JIBLM says this about future updates:

Updating Course Notes
In order to keep the highest quality notes available online, JIBLM encourages the revision of published notes. Should an author desire corrections or modifications, the author may submit a complete list of revisions along with a new submission to replace the original submission. The revised version will be refereed, and will replace the old version if it is accepted. Such submissions will be replaced in December and June to assure that faculty using course notes on-line will not be effected.

So we can send them a future updated version as well.

For AIM, it might be worth sending them a query just saying "Here's where we are, here's where we are going -- does it make sense for y'all to review this now, or later?"

I'd wait until later for AIM, but I think we can submit for JIBLM in December.

I think it is time to revisit this conversation given the "publication" of the 2022 version.

JIBLM: need to adapt to their TeX template. Unclear to me if hacking TeX output from PreTeXt, or writing a conversion from PTX to JIBLM-TeX is more work.
