Today I ran getfastq -u GSE114740, and it failed with message Cannot convert GEO project ID to ENA alias.... However, the GEO page for that ID shows that the bioproject exists (with accession PRJNA472167), and the call getfastq -u PRJNA472167 work fine. The bioproject ID is not shown in the canonical "related links" box near the bottom of the GEO accession page, which makes me think it was not properly handled when the submission was deposited.
Perhaps looking into a fallback source of the bioproject ID might be worthwhile.
