Dolly This word can mean a lot of things in English. The obvious inspiration is that it's a doll, which is related to a puppet, but it is also a tool to transport stuff from A to B, e.g. to transport a boat, or a movie camera during shoots. |

Hi, I'm not actually a user of the software, but I can see how useful this could be for managing server farms. I do not like what P4 is doing with respect to you NOT having 'puppet' in the project name (I read about this on TheRegister). So, I used Grok over on X to find synonyms for 'puppet' and one name stuck out: "effigy". So to make it unique, maybe F.E.G. or F3G or OpenFG or similar...? |

I was thinking about this and I think it needs to me a made up word to make sure its not already used. I came up with a simple alternative that sounds nice and reminds of «puppet» to maintain the link to the original project. Tuppet Thanks |

I thought of Partner as the meaning a person who shares or is associated with another in some action or endeavor seems relative |

Late to the party, but how about Yonnet? As in, Marionette |
i have a question about process here: how many votes can we actually cast here, one or many? it seems to me you're saying both at once. github itself seems to allow the latter. |
Uh oh!

Project name considerations:

We have considered not renaming Puppet, but Perforce has refused to let us use the name quite explicitly in today's community hall call, see #5.
More about names

there's more good stuff in there, but that's the important bits about the name.
so when you suggest a name here, think about avoiding generic names like, well, blink or dolly (sorry to pick on you two! :), and due dilligence in looking for existing projects (like dig in a search engine first, ideally do a trademark search) would also go a long way.
in any case, regardless of the outcome of the vote here, i strongly feel that the chosen name should respect the above.
