Project name considerations:

• It cannot use the word Puppet
• It cannot use intellectual property of any other company/organization.
• It should be something that will be viewed as trustworthy in the enterprise space.
• The organization name should be available on Github (please don't create an organization to reserve the name at this time)
• It should reflect the function of the project or otherwise explain why it makes sense to be the project name
• It would be nice if the name is not an existing word because that makes searching for it easier and decreases the chance it overlaps with an existing project/name/thing.

We have considered not renaming Puppet, but Perforce has refused to let us use the name quite explicitly in today's community hall call, see #5.

The Linux Foundation had the following advice about forks:

Name
    The name is important. Come up with something distinct and trademark-friendly.
    Ensure that we own the domain, GitHub namespace, etc. associated with the new name. (If anyone helps by squatting on any of those, get them to transfer stuff to the new organization.)
    Remove any existing trademark usage from the codebase. That includes paths, command names, etc. (While this may not be strictly necessary, it eliminates an opportunity for legal action later.)

there's more good stuff in there, but that's the important bits about the name.

so when you suggest a name here, think about avoiding generic names like, well, blink or dolly (sorry to pick on you two! :), and due dilligence in looking for existing projects (like dig in a search engine first, ideally do a trademark search) would also go a long way.

in any case, regardless of the outcome of the vote here, i strongly feel that the chosen name should respect the above.

The specific kind of mannequin you're is referring to is probably the Transparent Anatomical Manikin (TAM) which suggests the word "manikin" by itself isn't specific to a medical device.

Technically, no, it won't necessarily be the name with the most votes. No matter how many votes there are for Puppetty McPuppetface, that won't win. The winning option is also subject to legal review.

The plan created by the Working Group does not include a provision for a second round of voting. The intention was to pick a name as quickly as possible because there are so many other things dependent on that. We gave a range for the voting to close to make sure the holidays wouldn't impact participation, but the Working Group feels that there has been sufficient participation and the voting will close on December 31.

Since this move is due to things being closed or walled off in the commercial version, parapet is a word that is close in style to puppet, while also inferring some meaning there regarding the decision. Plus it has two ps in the word, which could be fitting for the .pp file extension.

Hi, I'm not actually a user of the software, but I can see how useful this could be for managing server farms. I do not like what P4 is doing with respect to you NOT having 'puppet' in the project name (I read about this on TheRegister).

So, I used Grok over on X to find synonyms for 'puppet' and one name stuck out: "effigy".

So to make it unique, maybe F.E.G. or F3G or OpenFG or similar...?
