From 39f17ea0d3b9cc1165970e125a087c09ed41b2db Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: DrLegitamate <115639007+DrLegitamate@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2026 18:46:09 +0000 Subject: [PATCH 1/7] docs(nonmatching): Joba state machines down to gcse bucket counts func_L11_00453358's retained draft is now a complete compilable unit: 4524/4524 bytes, 1131/1131 instructions, only four spill slots differ. A scratch cc1 with a forced expression-hash size makes it 1 of 1 at S 539-543 and 561-565, so only the gcse insn count is left. Case 9 uses the matched twin func_L02_0040BE08's cross-jump guard, pending a ruling. func_L11_00451178 and func_L11_00444400 keep their bodies, with new measurements: the bucket requirement, ruled-out spellings and profiles, and the negative inline-helper test for the HUD boundary. Checked: tools/check.py per function (results in the notes); unittest, tests/check_repository.py and tools/progress.py --check pass. No linked build: nothing in src/ changes. The last six words were stack-slot and case-12 ordering: - tmpl = &particle set just before the template is filled: the short life wins it a saved register that reload then evicts with case 12's reaching registers, giving retail's slot 0xCC, and keeps the particle loop at 46 insns for loop.c's first-pass hoist; - spin = state + 0x2B0 before case 12's loop (func_L11_0044AFC8's form) orders gcse's PRE copies; - an inlined turn() helper gives gcse retail's bucket count (S 583). On the forced-bucket check, an `emit()` helper around the `func_002A8C28` calls is code-neutral too (S 541). For `func_L11_00451178` the same helpers bring the natural wording into its window (`turn` alone gives S 581), but its case-7 hoist order still differs. +**Resolved later the same day:** `func_L11_00451178` matches too (`L11_00451178-gu-g8.c`). Global-alloc gives `tmpl` and case 12's three reaching registers one saved + register (their lives do not overlap), reload takes it back, and the evicted pseudos get + slots in pseudo order after the ones spilled from the start. The variable has to win the + register first, so `tmpl = &particle;` goes just before the template is filled (a short + life), not earlier in the case. As a register argument it also drops gcse's copy from the + particle loop: 46 insns, so loop.c's first-pass threshold (61 - 3 per hoist) still covers + 0x70707F. +- **PRE copy order.** PRE inserts its copies in expression-index order, which is the order of + first appearance. `spin = (float *)(state + 0x2B0);` before the loop (`func_L11_0044AFC8`'s + `rotation`) makes `state+0x2B0` appear before `object+0xF0`. +- **Bucket count.** The `turn()` helper gives S 583. +Reading `-dL` for "not desirable" and the loop's real insn count is the quickest check on a +preheader order. **Update, 3 November 2026 (pending review):** now matched. `func_L12_00300410` is C in `src/levels/12_todano/L12_00300410-g8.c` (`-O2 -G8 -ffunction-sections`), placed at 1 US place (PAL and US2 catalogues have no function of this name). Since #258, the fold still makes that `sq $zero,0($sp)`, because the address is register-only.

A finer retail count (one place per catalogue row, boot game code from 0x26EA00, a store counted when every path into it starts from the `por`) finds 183 `por`-fed stores at a zero displacement, in 153 functions. Every one of them is to `0($sp)`; none goes through another register. Against that, 396 `sq $zero,0(reg)` stores in 263 functions, of which 82 (58 functions) are also to `0($sp)`.

PR #281 adds the opt-in `-frac2-zero-ti-por`: with it, the fold leaves a store to `0($sp)` alone, and stores through any other register still fold. It is neutral by default (806 of 806 units). Forced on everywhere, it changes exactly the 4 units whose matched functions clear `0($sp)` with `sq $zero`. **5 November 2026:** `func_L02_003FE768` (shared boss bar) matches the same way, with each real conversion of its rounded edge in a group (`t = v * scale + 0.5f; do { top = t; } while (0);`): 2 of 2 USA places, 0 of 2 without the groups. A scratch cc1 that made every float-to-int conversion a sched2 barrier broke 95 of 228 matched functions, so the barrier belongs to these sources.
