Everything was fixed in version 5.3.0.
In version 5.3.1, everything is broken again.
Furthermore, the swipe-down gesture in full-game mode doesn't work at all.

Steps to reproduce the bug

open any channel with short videos
click on any shorts
click full screen
swipe down the video
open another shorts
it will open in landscape orientation rather than portrait and will pause, although the sound will play
